Tyten Alan: A New Look At Potty Training

Potty Training?

Yeah…you’ll see…

Ready…Set…GO!

It was the end of another busy day. Traz and his dad had been working on the basement most of the day. His mom and I took Nyte to the nearby elementary school to play on the slides. We went to the Chinese buffet for dinner and then went home to rest. It was around 8:55pm. Nyte was sitting on my lap on the stairs and starting to get fussy because he was sleepy. So Traz took him off my lap and to his room. I was about to get up from the stairs when, as I was pulling myself up, I felt like I had gotten punched in the gut or just hit something really hard in my stomach. It actually took me a couple of minutes to get up after that. I then got a banana for Nyte (his bedtime snack) and headed to his room. That’s when I realized my water broke.
I told Traz that I was pretty certain my water broke. He wanted me to go with his mom to the hospital right away. I stayed and waited to see if it actually had broken, which it had. We got to the hospital by 9:20pm.
There was only one nurse, let’s call her Cindy, in OB cause there were no patients. That meant we got the largest delivery room, which was pretty nice since it had a couch Traz could lie down on. So, I got my papers in, an IV going to prep me for an epidural, and could feel the contractions really working hard. I wanted to watch some TV to get my mind off the pain, but the cable was out in that room. Cindy said she could bring in a TV with a DVD player, so Traz went home real quick to get some movies for me. Shortly after he left, I had to get propped up on one side with some pillows because Tyten’s heart rate was going down with each contraction and Cindy wanted to try to keep that from happening. After that, I needed to go to the bathroom. So, Cindy checked my cervix (5cm dilated and 100% effaced), and helped me out but no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t really go. That should have been my first clue to how the rest of the night was going to go, but I thought it was just my body doing its thing.

Potty Training 101

So as I went back towards my bed, I realized how much more comfortable I felt standing up rather than lying down. By this time Traz had already been back for a little while. Cindy left to talk to a doctor and Traz stayed with me. He left a couple of times to ask Cindy if the epidural guy was coming soon because my contractions were getting more intense and closer together. However, the epidural couldn’t come until the lab came back with my CVC count. So, there I am dealing with some pretty bad contractions. Somewhere in there I actually do go to the bathroom and then come back out to stand up and labor some more. Eventually, I decide to sit down on the edge of the bed.
That’s when, for lack of a better term, I pooped myself. I couldn’t have stopped that bowel movement if I tried. I told Traz to go get Cindy because I thought I might need to push, but when she came in all I said was, “Uh….I pooped”. So, she got me up to the bathroom, and left to go get some rags to clean up the mess. I was sitting on the toilet when a contraction started. That’s when I yelled, “Traz!!! Go get the nurse cause I need to push!!!!!”
Traz gets all wide eyed, says, “Everything’s gonna be ok!” and runs out of the room for Cindy. Enter Cindy with a towel yelling, “Don’t push! Don’t push!” She helps me up off the toilet and half carries me to the bed. Over my screaming (and yes, I was REALLY screaming at this point) I hear Cindy yelling at Traz, “Hit the light! Hit the light!” Traz, having no idea what she means, says, “What light!?” All this happened in one contraction. By this time they have me on the bed and Cindy has hit “the light” to get another nurse from anywhere into my room to help her out. She then has Traz get the big blue package from the cupboard in our room to deliver the baby, while yelling at the second nurse who has come in to get Dr. Bradshaw over. She actually had Traz try to call him at one point as well.
So there I am, half way on my bed at an awkward angle with Cindy telling me not to push but also to not scream as well. I try doing some Lamaze breathing to distract me. Yeah….I can’t do Lamaze breathing. So at some point I have a mouth full of my hospital gown in my mouth. But before I gag myself, I have to ask an obvious question to Cindy…
“Is the baby coming?”
“…yes.”
WHAT ELSE COULD BE HAPPENING!?!? I’m in Labor and Delivery screaming…bless Cindy for not smacking me and saying, “Stupid woman! What do you think you’re in here for!?”
And of course, while all of this is happening the only thing I am thinking is, “No! I can’t have the baby yet! The epidural guy isn’t here! We have to wait for him!!!!”
So, two contractions after I am on the bed (a total of 3 contractions), Tyten Alan enters into our lives on July 26th at 11:47pm. If I had pushed at all when I was in the bathroom, I would have had him in the toilet. Hence, Tyten is my potty training baby.

Feelings?

As for the pain, all I remember was feeling pressure and that I was tearing a little. It really wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. It was like my body just couldn’t register anymore discomfort, so it just flattened out after a certain point. I actually had a harder time getting stitched up (Dr. Bradshaw made it in time to do that. He got to the room when Tyten was in the warmer.) than the actual delivery. After the head came out, I was actually a great deal more comfortable. I did like how I was able to shower and walk around so soon after delivering. The biggest problem I had was the adrenaline high I had after. I had a really hard time sleeping for the next 24 hours!
Nyte and Tyten saying "hello"

How Is Nyte With His New Brother?

Nyte loves Tyten….sometimes a little too much. He is always excited to see him, even when he is sleeping in the bouncer. When Tyten cries when he is in the bouncer or on my bed or floor, Nyte often gets to him before I do and says, “Hi tye-tuh.”(That’s “tyten”) Yes, Nyte will get upset if I have to stop playing to nurse Tyten and I’ve gotten upset with the few times he’s hit Tyten.  All-in-all, Nyte is adjusting
well.
Introducing: Tyten!

So there you have it! After much craziness, we are adjusting well to two little boys. Tyten sleeps rather well at night (knock on wood…) and is generally a happy baby. Our little family has grown a little more, filling our lives with A LOT of love and happiness.

Until next time!

Lots of BIG Changes In Just A Few Months

Take Us To The End of 2013

So the biggest thing that happened to Nyte last year was that he learned how to walk. Granted, he was taking steps on his own a few days after he started to crawl. We actually thought he was going to skip crawling all together just because he had such a strong interest in walking. He had some bumps and bruises in the learning process, but he got over his inhibitions soon enough. Now we have to keep up with him and nothing is safe…
As for me, I got my ganglion cyst removed in October! Let’s just say that was a VERY expensive nap. We are pretty sure it has come back since then. It’s either in the same place as before or on a different tendon. But the surgery was only supposed to have a 70% success rate so I’m not too bummed…well…maybe a little since the surgery cost over $1k.
Traz is working hard at Intermountain Electronics. He helped bring out the latest catalog for the company and has been improving many products for the better.

Nyte on Traz's shoulders. He's quacking at the flamingos :)
This past Christmas we got to go to California! I hadn’t been home since Traz and I got married. It was a long drive and Traz was exhausted when we got there but we had a lot of fun. It was good to see family and Nyte got to meet everyone from my side of the family for the first time! He also really enjoyed being outside in December since it was still too cold to go outside in Price at that time. Our big trip there was to the San Diego Zoo! Traz loved being outside all day two days before Christmas and Nyte really enjoyed the animals. All around it was a good time.

BIG CHANGE #1:

The first big change? I’ll give you a hint….it makes me get bigger each week! That’s right! Baby Wayman #2 is due July 28th! Nyte is going to be a big brother to a little BOY! We still haven’t chosen a name for him yet but we are working on it. Ideas are in the works though!
It’s interesting to see how Nyte reacts to things like a baby. He knows what a baby is, but doesn’t grasp the concept that there is one in my stomach. He also has a REALLY hard time with doctors doing anything to me.  Traz had to take him out of the second ultrasound because he was so upset, and I have to bring a movie for him to watch while my doctor checks the heartbeat and such. It’s kind of cute how protective he is over me. The only bump (pun may or may not be intended) in the road of this pregnancy is that I had a low lying placenta at 18 weeks. But I got a third ultrasound and I am good to go on that front! I do need to drink more fluids. Other than that, I get to run (soon waddle) after Nyte until the baby comes!

BIG CHANGE #2:

This change involves big debt. We bought a house! We are very excited about this since we have been working towards this for a little over a year now. We had a great real estate agent, who also happens to be our Stake President! He was very patient with us in when we were able to meet and what houses we wanted to see. We saw some that were good and some that were terrifying.  In the end, we chose our 4 bedroom, 2 bath house that was just down the street from where we used to live. Literally, you walk to the end on the street that we lived on and you can see our new house across the street from that corner. It’s great not only for the easy move, but also for the fact that we stay in the same ward for church.
The layout of the house is almost like a split home, but with more of an entryway. You enter into the living room (with vaulted ceilings that we LOVE). The kitchen and dining room are to your right on that same level. You go up a half flight of stairs and you come to two bedrooms and a bath (which is attached to one of the rooms). You go down a half flight of stairs and come to two rooms and another bath (unattached). Then you go down another half flight of stairs and you find an unfinished basement. That’s where the washer and dryer will go (which is coming this week!). The house has a few things that need fixing, but nothing that won’t take longer than a weekend. Oh! We also have a small fenced in yard! It needs work as well but I love having a place that Nyte can run around in and still be safe.
The stairs! Two bedrooms upstairs, two downstairs. One bathroom on each level

The living room from the upstairs viewpoint.

Master bedroom. We have taken off the closet doors since this picture.

Part one of the master bath. The sink and shower are separate.

It's sideways but this is our shower and deep bathtub :)

Upstairs bedroom that will be the nursery.

Downstairs room that is the office.

Nyte's room (downstairs)

The kitchen! (yes, the pic is sideways.)

The kitchen....so small but oh well

Our living room fireplace

The yard! Yeah, those weeds are now gone gone GONE!

Other than that, we celebrated 3 years of marriage on the 15th! It’s amazing that we have come so far and have done so much. We are both very different  people now but it’s all been for the better. I can’t imagine my life without Traz and I thank Heavenly Father  every day for bringing him into my life.
Traz also had his 26th birthday on the 17th. Nothing big. Just some pizza, and ice cream with a Peep (his favorite) and a birthday candle on top. He enjoyed it because it was simple, and I enjoyed it because it wasn’t too simple J
So that brings things up to date for the most part.  We are happy, busy and exhausted.
But we wouldn’t have it any other way….

The Not So Long Catch Up Post

WHAT HAPPENED!?

Here he comes!
We don’t have internet. Therefore, I don’t get many chances to write on this thing. But a good deal has happened since I last wrote. First and foremost, Nyte is crawling on all fours. He started doing it near the end of July/early August. Before that, he would do this rather painful belly flop to get from point A to B. So he is on all fours and getting into EVERYTHING! Fun Story:  Nyte was taking steps on his own at about 10 months, but he walks around best holding onto one of our hands. On the day he was “officially” crawling, Nyte crawled over to get a bite of whatever Traz and I were eating. After he got a taste, he turns around (he is on his feet by the couch at this point) and starts to walk across the living room! He did fine at first but started going faster and faster and then…WHAM! Face planted. Yeah, needless to say he is a bit hesitant to walk on his own again.

What Else Is Going On?

We also had Nyte’s 1st Birthday! It was a very fun day! Really nostalgic for me. Traz and I stayed up until almost midnight decorating the kitchen. I woke up around 5am to deal with Nyte only to discover that all the decorations fell down. Word of advice: Use pins, not tape. In the end, the decorations were very nice. Went a little overboard for his first birthday but it was fun and Nyte enjoyed it. We had a couple of friends from our ward (people we go to church with) to celebrate with us. We had pizza and cupcakes. Nyte really didn’t know what to do with the cupcake. He just smashed it into a pulp and then kinda ate it. He really wasn’t that interested in it, if you can believe that! We got him presents from the D.I (Deseret Industries, a thrift store run by my church) and dollar stores. Why break the bank? As my Dad said, “If it’s new to them, then it’s new.”  It was a good birthday anywhere.

The first attempt...I need practice.
Nyte also had his first haircut. Let’s just say it did not go well. I tried just using the clippers, but Nyte hated them! After the first few swipes, it was almost impossible to trim his hair. I would turn the clippers on, and Nyte would start to cry, throw himself onto the tray of the booster seat I was using and cover his head with his arms. So I tried to use the scissors. Yeah….don’t try using scissors on a one-year old. The first result of the haircut was so awful, I had to suck it up and use the clippers to even it out. Needless to say, I feel like I have traumatized my son.

What About Mom and Dad?

Traz and I are doing well. I love being a mom and helping Nyte learn and grow. It is very rewarding and I have no regrets. I do have a ganglion cyst on my right wrist that I will be getting rid of next month. We tried whacking it with a book, but it didn’t work. So, I’m hoping that draining it will work and I won’t have to get it surgically removed. Traz has gotten several product redesigns out for the company he works for. He works hard to help support our family and I couldn’t be more proud. We are excited for next year, in which we hope to buy a house! We have some more saving to do but I think it will be a fun adventure. There are lots of big things in store for us!
We are breathing, living, and loving life. Hope you are doing the same!

A Random Post

Well here is another post for those of you who aren’t currently reading mine, Traz’s or Nyte’s mind. To those of you who are…..get out of our heads!  Let me answer the question that might be on a lot of your minds (because I CAN read your minds. Freaked out? You should be….)

How Is Nyte Doing?

After a week of suction, humidifiers and getting used to solid food again, I am glad to say that Nyte made a full recovery from RSV. He is happy and healthy. A slight head cold was going around for a bit but it was all under control thanks to my heartless suction of all that was mucous in his nose. He has now gone back to his normal self.

And Now Onto Other Things!

Traz is still working about 50 hours a week at work. It’s all a matter of so many things to do but not enough people to do it. But he is happy to be able to have a job and I am proud of all the new products he gets to help create in his department. For those of you who don’t know, Traz works in the Research and Development Department for Intermountain Electronics. He helps design part of power plants and coal mines. I would tell you more about what he does, but then I would have to kill you. (In truth…I don’t understand a lot of it myself…)
As for me, Nyte and I spend the day learning, playing, and so forth. Nyte is now able to move forward on his belly. It’s not his preferred method of transportation, but he can do it if he really wants something. What he really likes to do is take my (or Traz’s) hands, pull himself up and walk around. He may skip walking but who knows. I first have to get him over the idea that I carry him everywhere…which will take training on my part J.
He has also started to copy the sounds of words Traz and I say. When we were at Mailee’s and Spencer’s for a weekend, Nyte got a real kick out of their dog Lizzy. By the end of the weekend, Nyte was enthusiastically saying (or thereabouts) the word “dog”. Granted, it sounded more like “da-ah-gah!” but he liked saying. Now his new favorite word is “hat”. He tends to quickly say the “a” sound or kinda skip over it.  Overall, we are proud of our little Goomba.  He‘s working on getting  some more teeth coming in as well!
In Other News:
Traz and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary on Monday. (And yes, we did get our taxes in beforehand so we could enjoy the day). We ate a delicious dinner and played some video games to celebrate. I’m gonna get all mushy for a second and reminisce. I feel very grateful to have been able to find Traz. That he would look at me and decide I was worth the time and effort. That he still looks at me and thinks that after almost three years of being together. Traz is truly my better half. He keeps me striving to do better and to look at things from a different angle. While it always hasn’t been easy, it has been worth it. I love my husband, and I love April 15th because it is the day I started my eternal family with him. Therefore, it is the greatest day of my life. Because without that day, I would not be typing this while I listen to make sure that Nyte is still soundly asleep while Traz is sleeping peacefully next to me. So yes…April 15th may be a day of taxes and turmoil to the rest of you,  but to me it is a day to cherish.

Now That You’re All Done Being Sick Off Of My Mushy-ness

We get to have Nyte taken in for his first round of immunizations on the 20th! (Which I guess would be today when I post it….). I’m not looking forward to how he will react. We waited so long because of medical insurance, but also because we wanted Nyte to get over his trauma from being in the hospital. Now it’s time to traumatize him some more right? Hopefully it goes well and there are no major side effects on his part. Wish us luck!

Until next time….
